Communicating

Anthony has been with his new speech therapist for two full weeks now. He's learned to say 2 new words, more and slide. He gets along so well with her and she is awesome. We go to the clinic and she takes him in the sensory room so that he can get what he needs to feel grounded and learn to pronounce words. She just adores Anthony, she has two boys of her own (she's a single mom), and she's already talking about bringing me their hand-me-downs.:)

Learning to say the words is all well and good but he has to know how to use them, how to communicate. He has yet to do that, until today. Normally, he will come up and sign more and I'll tell him to say "more." He learned to say it his first week with the new SLP so we've been working on this for two weeks now. This afternoon Bella and Anthony were stacking things in the back of a dump truck and Anthony started saying, "mow! Mow!" YAY! He said it and he used it correctly. I'm so proud of him.

He's trying really hard to say words but y'all sometimes he isn't even close. He tries so hard to make the sound but he just can't get his mouth to move the way his brain is telling it. It's very sad and frustrating for me, I can only imagine how he must feel.

But I didn't mean to turn this negative, things are improving with the new SLP. She is already making progress and I'm excited about every upcoming appointment. I can't wait to see what word(s) he's going to pick up next week.
