So I've got this deep, dark desire to read all (or as many as I can) of the 'great works of literature'. Whatever that means. Some are easy to qualify: 1984, Crime & Punishment, Moby Dick. Some are harder: On the Road probably wouldn't be considered a 'great classic' by some (even some of MY friends!), but I think it's a very interesting look at a part of American culture during that time. And that's how I qualify a 'great work'.
That being said, I just finished Moby Dick last night. I found it a very interesting read, moreso than I first expected. It is half a story and half a description of whaling during that time. It is the only story I have read written from the first person, but in which the narrator takes NO part in the plot. Very interesting.
And I finally know where Khan got all his great lines from. Always fun making a Star Trek connection.
