Obama Science Memo Goes Beyond Stem Cells
"Promoting science isn't just about providing resources it is also about protecting free and open inquiry," Obama said. "It is about letting scientists like those here today do their jobs, free from manipulation or coercion, and listening to what they tell us, even when it's inconvenient especially when it's inconvenient. It is about ensuring that scientific data is never distorted or concealed to serve a political agenda and that we make scientific decisions based on facts, not ideology.

The emphasis is mine. As someone who has had to deal directly with the effects of the Bush Admin's war on science, I can't tell you how incredibly happy it makes me to see Obama say this. Unfortunately it may already be too late for me to continue working in this field but as long as someone is able to do the work, I'm OK.

obama, science, work
