blog killers (a dribbling rant)

has anyone noticed that facebook and twitter has killed regular blogging?

Although it's interesting to see what friends are upto with their lives, and I do find it interesting - I have been thinking about how this new means of communication has been effecting our way of thinking.

everyone is so up-to-date with everyone else's lives that a nice long rant about happenings is no longer needed, which means delving into more interesting topics and expanding on certain things that happened are not occurring... no deep and meaningfuls, no understanding the nature of being. No productive chatter.

I am being bombarded with character limited trivial updates on individual's everyday life. I would love to see how many duplicate status updates are out there, how many millions of people have typed the exact same day-to-day stuff, to the letter; if we knew this realtime we would realize how un-unique we really are.

So many times I have thought of something worth twittering but find that i really cant express it properly with the char limit, so I just give up :(

I guess I should use it for what it seems to be used for, to actively announce what we are doing at stages during the day. I think a better way to do it would be for everyone to wear hats with webcams attached to the front. The vid stream would mostly consist of the subject going to work, working, going home, repeat (in my case anyway :P).

It's like everyone is trying to log their lives, so that they can define themselves by the time they die. Or maybe to be noticed by the world as existing, having meaning to life. Same could be said about a blog though...

With this post, dont take this all the wrong way, I enjoy being updated with friends' happenings. I'm just trying to understand the effect that it is having on human thought.

oh, another thing, people say that twitter is humanizing celebrities, the old news is that they are actually humans - even before twitter. They can say the same stuff as us, they can make typos, they can sound retarded. We are all the same human beings, they just happen to be setting the template for human worship, exploiting our frail human minds so that we have something to become/relate to.

damn... reading over this I think I really am becoming bitter, jaded and...

old.
