Mother and Daughter

What the mother doesn't know,
Doesn't hurt her.
What the mother doesn't know,
Doesn't hurt her...

The words play over and over,
Inside the daughter's mind.
Trying to make herself believe,
It's the only truth of its kind.

The daughter knows the mother,
Has trusted her all these years.
The daughter has watched the mother,
Have days she'd come home in tears.

The mother sacrificed her life,
To help her family grow.
But, where the hidden truth lies,
Only the daughter knows.

What the mother doesn't know,
Doesn't hurt her.
What the mother doesn't know,
Doesn't hurt her...

The daughter got her kicks,
Doing unspeakable things,
Her unhappiness led her down a dark path,
That only depression brings.

The mother did everything in her power,
To make sure the daughter was healthy and happy.
She never realized that the daughter's new-found happiness,
Would weigh down on her so.

The daughter kept telling herself,
Over and over again,
That what the mother doesn't know,
Doesn't hurt her.
But, deep down she knows,
It's the thing that hurts her most.
