in Chicago

Hey Y'all,
I am in Chicago training to be a flight attendant with United Airlines, I know I havent updated in forever but I hope you will forgive me.

This is the end of week two and once again I am spending what could be an awesome night out. In a computer lab doing e-learning about different aircraft that United Airlines flies. These are probably the most inconvenient of all the lessons/classes that we have to do.

Tomorrow I have my first flight. It is a training flight to Dallas/Fort Worth. We take off at 11:55 and return later in the evening. It is a nice long flight and it will be nice to actually get out there and observe and help out on the line.

Some instructors here are starting to grate on me and their teaching styles are less than desirable. One of these things I have noticed is that at the end of the day I could care less about reading complaint letters that are poorly written. (i.e. complaints about "most non-professionally run" airline) Also the redundancies are getting very old. If i hear one more intro about how long so-and-so has been with the company and how senior they are and how their domicile is the "best" and also how we as flight attendants are "sooo important" the "face of United." I don't care when you came here. or who you are.. just tell me the information that is necessary for me to do my job. Also why do I need to know that the pilots have diverse personalities "like a little village"? lol I think those facts are the reasons that I can't fit anymore useful information into my brain.

Appearance checks: So in the middle of a very important class this week our "special instructor" comes in to check our appearance. Now the instructors for our very important safety class are some guys who arent exactly appearance conscious. and as they are going person to person coaching us on proper professional image and how to improve ourselves. He is just standing there amazed. After all is clear and everyone is sitting there feeling about 3 inches tall. He laughs and says that is a first I have honestly never seen that before EVER. lol. Neither had I it was quite the interesting experience.

Also an intriguing phenomenon is the mass exodus of our class. The typical training class loses about 5-6 people total in the 6 and a half weeks. We have lost 5 at the end of the 2nd week. One has a terminally ill mother, another had a newborn daughter, a dying grandfather, and the death of a very close family friend were 4 out of the 5 precipices. The last was a guy who left the 2nd day because he missed his dog. I think he just realized that this wasnt for him; the others I kinda feel for though. I am kinda beginning to wonder if/ when we will lose more. I really hope not. I like the people who are training with me.

some funny words of this week: ample/and ditching

thank you for your attention.
