As we move forward to be a first world nation I notice the diminishing of social responsibility. Today, while taking the train ride home (as packed as usual), a blind man walked into the same carriage as me. Not a surprise, he seems to be an invisible man to everyone and was not offered a seat.
After I alighted at the station, a commotion happened. A China girl (probably in her early twenties) fainted in the train was carried out onto the platform by 2 Indian girls and accompanied by the victim's girl-friend. Lots of eye power commuters but no one actually moved forward to assist. They seemed to have difficulties in communicating hence I being KPO offered to do the translation. Only then I found out that the girl fainted after a drinking session. Eventually the train station staff came over and offered to wheel chair the girl to the first aid room to rest while waiting for their friends to arrive.
Are we Singaporeans really that self-centered as we move towards a first world nation???
