Some titles, you see ‘em and you just know you can’t resist. This is one. I mean, c’mon. I have a similar weakness when it’s SyFy movies, but there’s a couple important differences here, the biggest being that the writing didn’t make me want to claw my brain out through my ears.
All the crass tacky trashiness here (say that five times fast) is on purpose. All the funny is because it’s meant to be funny. The plot, believe it or not, hangs together with its own plausible consistency. And this is a book about … well, look at that title again.
It’s also a Western, which makes it not just from the future but from the past, a porn-purveyor’s spaceship crashing just outside a townful of gamblers, gunslingers, outlaws and whores. Combining a newfangled technology of picture-projection, Blob (the crashlanded alien) is soon doing a booming business filming the randy antics of gold-greedy volunteers.
There’s a catch, of course. Most of those volunteers never get a chance to spend their lust-gotten gold, and some of the survivors are unhappy about it. Soon, a couple of bounty hunters are on Blob’s trail, while Blob himself has hired a gunman with his own particular tastes, and there’s bound to be a showdown.
This is not the kinda disappointing Daniel Craig movie with the cowboys and the aliens. This is outlandish, outrageous, filthy, hilarious, gross, and fun.
