Title: "A Sunday Kind of Love" from The Late Spike Spiegel Blues
Summary: "And that was why he had to find Julia."
Fandom: Cowboy Bebop
Word Count: 308
Rating/Warnings: PG
Pairing: Spike/Julia
A/N: This was sort of dancing about my brain. A longer Spike/Faye fic is forthcoming. Probably. Also, changed my standard header, cause I'm both indecisive and OCD.

Spike knew, almost from the first day she showed up, that Faye was in love with him. Of course he knew, though he also knew she’d deny it with her last breath. And he didn’t care. No, that wasn’t right. He did care for her, more deeply than anyone was ever going to know. He just didn’t reciprocate.

Jet must have thought he was crazy not to go after her. She was certainly sexy, he didn’t deny that. But she wasn’t beautiful. He couldn’t really explain it. There wasn’t anything special about her. Her personality was like the clothes she insisted on wearing. Everything she was was right there in the open for anyone to see. Sure, she had a tragic past. But he had come to realize that everyone had a tragic past. That or they had a tragic future.

But that wasn’t why he didn’t love her. It wasn’t love if it didn’t hurt a little, because it wasn’t life if it didn’t hurt a little. And that wasn’t what she wanted to give him. She didn’t have to say it, he just knew. She wanted her love to be absolutely perfect and heal all his wounds. That wasn’t love. That was control wearing a mask. And he couldn’t possibly love her the way she deserved to be loved. Oh, she’d think she was happy- she’d swear by it. But it would never be what she needed.

And that was why he had to find Julia. Because that was his kind of love. Because they completed each other- not because they should, not because they were in love, but just because they did. Because it was true. Because it was never forced, and because he never found it wanting. Because if she really was in love with Vicious, then he had died a long time ago.
