IRON MAN
Things that are not spoilery:
1. Was halfway to theater before I realized that I had a ticket for the 9PM showing and not the 10PM. Whoops. Turned out okay though, because I got there by like 9:10, during the interminable trailers and trailer trailers.
1a. How did I know know Katee Sackhoff was on a new show? I mean, I'm not gonna watch it, but.
2. Did I mention interminable trailers? Now want to see Man of Steel even less than previously, which is kind of impressive.
3. Driving home listening to Motley Crue at midnight is the way one should always exit an Iron Man film.
Things that are spoilery:
1. THE MANDARIN, OH MY GOD, OH MY GOD, THE MANDARIN.
I was braced for the biggest racefail to ever fail, which is sad because I love me some Ben Kingsley, but then it didn't, and it was awesome. I just. I cain't. It was a brilliant piece of trolling that worked absolutely perfectly. I LOVE YOU TREVOR.
There's this whole theme of Western imperialism in these movies that I think goes over the heads of a lot of people, because they get lost in Tony Stark and the red white and blue? Because the theme that the three movies share is that an evil white guy (Stane, Hammer, Killian) uses the face/talents of the Other (Rasa, Vanko, Trevor) to further his plans. That in itself becomes formulaic and problematic, but I find it fascinating.
2. PEPPER.
God just everything with Pepper. ALL THE THINGS. I started dying about the time that she was kneeling over Tony in the suit, and it just never stopped.
I found it really interesting that, unlike the other two movies, there wasn't any/much female-to-female slutshaming? Pepper and Christine's interactions are the most cringeworthy parts of 1 and 2 to my mind (up there with Tony drunk in the suit). But when it comes up, Pepper blames it on Tony and not Maya. I appreciated that.
It is really just too bad Maya had to turn evil and get shot, because 1) I could stand all the Maya/Pepper 2) I really liked Maya.
3. RHODEY.
I CAN'T AND I NEVER COULD. All the ass-kicking. ALL OF IT. SO satisfying, LOVED his interactions with Tony. WARMACHINEROX
4. TONY.
TONY TONY TONY TONY
I FEEL TO THE FLOOR
FANGIRL ERROR
INSUFFICIENT MEMORY
5. I want all the Tony kidfic now, which is weird, because I hate kidfic. But Tony's interactions with the kid were pitch-perfect. And yes, Tony, THAT is how you don't create a supervillain- you help his ass out and let him help you out. God.
6. Yinsen, Yinsen, I wanted to CRY EVERYWHERE FOREVER
7. DUMMY AE;LFKJSD;FLKSJDF;DJKF
#DUMMYLIVES
8. The only part I felt was a little bit of a problem is that the end was rushed. It got everything done, and I'm not sure how they could have done it better? But rushed.
That's pretty much the extent to which I can be coherent about it. It was a really fucking great movie, and I felt really satisfied. I know the subject of whether there will be an IM4 is a matter of debate, but I felt that movie tied everything up so perfectly that there's no point.
