Retrospectacle

So I was looking at this year's fic roundup, and I realized that I have been at this roundup thing for a long, long time. So this is, if you will, a roundup of roundups, as well as a chance for a little back-patting. Go forth and enjoy.

Ten best stories:
Presented in no particular order, the ten stories I think are most representative of my writing, the ones I'm proudest to own up to.

We Are Shaking Shadows (SGA)
This is, I think, the best kinky story I've ever written. It's super hot and well characterized. Also, who doesn't love Colonel Sadist?

bigger, better (if you could only get there) (Gyakuten Saiban)
I love the tone of this story. It's soft and sad, but it tracks upwards towards the end.

The Want of a Nail (The Dresden Files)
Hands down, this is the best character voice I've ever written. I'm ridiculously pleased with how much it sounds like the books.

really good mistakes (Inception)
This is exactly the kind of story this pairing needs, and I'm pleased as punch to have written it.

The Living Ones (DCU)
I think it's becoming obvious by this point that my favorite kinds of stories are the ones that start sad and end happy, especially if they're moody and atmospheric.

Survival (Marvel 1602)
I love this pairing so much, and I love 1602, so obviously I love this story.

The House By The Beach (SGA)
I just love a good mindfuck, and I love what I was able to do with this story.

Home Training (Star Trek)
This is probably the best story I've ever written for a kink meme. I'm very pleased with how Southern it is.

Ouroboros (House MD)
This is a perfect little sad story.

The Ethical Life (SGA)
I love a good AU, obviously, and this is probably the best one I've ever done. I love how the tone of the story came out.

Six favorite stories:
This was going to be three, then it was going to be five, and it became six, because trying to choose between my stories is like trying to choose between my children.

Landslide (Cowboy Bebop)
This was, I think, the first Cowboy Bebop fic I ever wrote, and I love it so.

Nice Place to Visit (SGA)
This story wasn't very popular, which was really disappointing, because it's exactly the story I wanted to write, because it's exactly the story I wanted to read. I adore it.

Drive (Smallville)
Lex/Lana was the pairing of my heart for a long time, and this is my favorite. It's such a quiet little story.

I'll Be Your Baby Tonight (House MD)
This story is raucous and ridiculous and that's exactly how I like my House/Cuddy. I had so much fun coming up with silly things to put in it. Also, it's hot and contains a reference to Christmas Vacation.

Individually Wrapped (SGA)
This story is weird and sad and silly all at once. Oh, John.

It's Different When They're Your Own (SGA)
This story is my baby, appropriately enough. I love how it turned out.

Four most popular stories:
I have to give a shout out to my readers, because, really, I do it for them.

Drunk (Cowboy Bebop)
For a long time, this was the most popular story I'd ever written. It was the story that I made a name for myself with in the Spike/Faye side of the Cowboy Bebop fandom, the first fandom I was in where I was anything approaching an MNF.

New Beginnings (Gyakuten Saiban)
This story has garnered something like fifty comments, which for the fandom is intense. It's also one of the most trope-a-riffic stories I've ever written. Everything's better with amnesia.

Four Blatant Lies About Atlantis (And One Thing That's Totally True) (SGA)
Public Timeline (SGA, co-written with
arymabeth).
These stories are similar in that I almost didn't post them, thinking they were way too silly. But, everybody else seems to find silly as awesome as I do, which pleases me.

Six stories you might have missed:
Here are some stories from little tiny fandoms (or fandoms I don't write in) that I like quite a bit.

Bad Dog (Lucky Number Slevin)
I really love the severely underrated Lucky Number Slevin, despite its flaws and its Stupid Title Syndrome. For a long time, this was the only story for this fandom at ff.net, which is really saying something.

Well Played, Jeeves (PG Wodehouse/HP Lovecraft)
I'm not sure why these fandoms go so well together, but by god, they do.

Epilogue (Othello)
This is one hell of a pitch-black story, but I really like it. A little bit of evil Cassio never hurt anybody. Except Iago.

In paradisum (DCAU)
I don't usually enjoy apocafic, but this episode was seriously calling for it.

Find the Time (Dr. Horrible's Sing-A-Long Blog)
I love this creepy little story with a great love.

Dark Horse (The Mona Lisa Overdub) (Stargate SG-1/Sprawl Trilogy, remix of Paper Cup by
seimaisin)
I love the tone of this story, and all the sadness behind it. It sounds very Gibson-esque to me.
