Ok, let's get something straight...
I will be the first person to say that there are not enough women in politics. (Or any high-level job.)
That being said, I think what McCain has done is a disgrace to women who are in politics, not to mention women in general. He is using the glamor of "the first female VP" to advance his campaign, and that is wrong. Sarah Palin is nothing more than a stepping stone for him, and I'm truly disappointed in a man whom I once considered to be a great politician. Until the moment Sarah Palin was announced as the VP candidate, I was considering voting for McCain. If Sarah Palin were a man, there is no way McCain would have chosen her. Considering her qualifications (or lack thereof) if Sarah Palin was a man, she wouldn't have made the VP shortlist, let alone actually get the nomination. But she's the good-time gal/ hockey mom/next-door neighbor that everyone recognizes from PTA meetings. And that's why she was chosen. And considering the mess our country's in right now, considering how our country has become a global joke, I think that McCain's choice is a measure of gross incompetance. It's a blow to women that Sarah Palin was the best option among the female Republicans on McCain's shortlist (oh wait, she was the only female on McCain's shortlist). What does it say about our country that Sarah Palin is the best female candidate we can dredge up?
