So, finally saw Rent today.
WOW
We discussed a lot after the movie, so probably won't rehash too many comments right now, just a few notes.
It was awesome. And amazing to get to see the people who really created these roles for so many of us, a chance that many fans never got if they discovered the show later.
of course I cried. pretty much from the moment Roger walked into the meeting onwards :)
I loved it all, accepted their changes, and thought they were truer to the original heart than any other type of film adaption I've seen.
only one thing they took out did I honestly miss, and not enough to really bother me
....and that was between the funeral fight and Roger leaving, Roger and Mark have it out over Mark's issues. I missed that a bit. It gives more depth to Mark's loneliness and detachment.
However, Jules, who doesn't know the musical that well, liked it without it, because, and I agree, they really play up the way Mark is emotionally affected by what he is filming, so I still really appreciated the character.
As if I wasn't enough in love just with Adam Pascal's voice from the last nine years, WOW. that smile, those eyelashes, and damn good angst.....
okay, one more tangent, but a positive one. . . .
As if this wasn't already one of the more poingent songs in the show when you're just hearing the lovers loneliness, they had to add the montage and make it the most beautifully heart wrenching moment. Between the people disappearing from the meeting, to Roger holding Mimi in withdraw, to Collins tending to Angel....shit. Beautiful pain.
and a shout-out to
ciretose Thought of you and laughed when Sarah Silverman's cameo came up ;)
