Ill.....
I'm officially sick. Achy, congested, doped up on the sofa with GIlmore Girls and peanut butter toast sick.
We did make it through most of Pericles last night. I'm between the two camps. I was enjoying it immensely, and didn't really want to leave at first. When the rain started, we stuck it out. We waited for the decision by the theatre to keep going, and by intermission, were in seats again as the rain had stopped. I was feeling rather gross, but, hey, we were there, so we stayed. However, into the second act, the rain came back. I was just about to suggest leaving--it was making me cold--when the pirates showed up! Before reading the synopsis yesterday, all I knew about Pericles was there were pirates. So I'm glad we made it that far. But about 2 minutes later, folks two rows up put up big ass umbrellas and we couldn't see anything....so that was the last straw. Sigh.
The show itself? I can see why it's not often performed, rather erratic yet simple story, but amusing. But for something unfamiliar and not often performed, I was enjoying it. Acting was good, made the story flow, costumes were lovely, and even the set changes were fascinatingly choreographed to make watching them fun. I'd say more, and more eloquently, but my head is all foggy and I have to talk outloud what I'm typing to put words together...good sign it's time to stop.
