simple and sweet:
1. I had a lovely time in Chicago hanging out with Lance. Thank you again for convincing me to come up and putting me up. It's a lot to ask of someone and I appreciate it.
2. Wine bars with excellent techno music for the win!
3. The Art Institute is undergoing a major renovation and expansion of their modern wing. I wasn't pleased to find some of my favorite paintings moved or put into storage, whole galleries closed off, the armory hall reduced to one long blank hallway, the Chagall windows removed, and the Hopper exhibition not opening until this weekend. No wonder February is free. -_-
3a. The improvements are needed so I won't begrudge the museum for that.
3b. I bought a book on painting written by a SAIC art history professor, which has sparked my mission to research other professors from the graduate schools I applied to and hopefully fine tune who I want to talk and work with.
3c. Yes, I should've thought of this sooner. I also need to start writing down questions for possible interviews. *crosses fingers*
4. Lance introduced me to Battlestar Galactica.
4a. ....and I don't have the Sci-Fi channel down here. Thankfully I'm four episodes from finishing season one and have another 52 episodes to go before the next season starts.
5. Freight trains can go bite a steel girder bridge.
6. Peter graciously picked me up from the station since I chickened out on walking home in the cold and convinced me to go out to dinner.
