Incinerator Protest
Originally uploaded by sabiha_basraiLast month I attended the U.S. Social Forum in Detroit. It was a convergence of about 15,000 social justice activists. We spent a week doing skills sharing, political education, and networking so we could support each other on important campaign work across race and class lines. It was really wonderful to feel that sense of solidarity.

Some of the things I did:
• Presented a workshop on visual communication strategy for the social justice movement.
• Confronted issues of Islamaphobia.
• Worked with local organizers in Detroit to protest and march against the city's garbage incinerator (the largest garbage incinerator in the world) and advocate for a recycling program.

It was an intense 6 days and I am glad I was able to be there.
