So I assisted in arresting someone at The Bay today.
I wasn't actually on a shift. I was in to drop a couple things off and the like, when the Loss Prevention officer recruited me into assisting him apprehend a shoplifter. Funny thing: At The Bay, the LP officers ARE allowed to arrest you, and we have two holding cells just in case.
The guy was actually pretty cooperative overall, but he wasn't initially. Yeah... It's fun being one of the people participating when the guy has to be dragged down to the floor in the middle of the mall so the LP officer can get handcuffs on him.
He ended up getting charged with Shoplifting under $5000 (immediately released because it was a first offense, and he was going to a long term detox facility in Fort Macleod before continuing treatment in Calgary). Additionally, he has been banned from all HBC stores (The Bay, Zellers, Home Outfitters, and Fields) as well as all grounds and buildings occupied by HBC for five years. What was he trying to steal? A $36 pair of sunglasses.
Ah well, I'm gonna get an extra two hours pay because of it.
