Reita moved, seeking a more comfortable position on the bed.
Waking the moment his hand found the empty spot next to him.
He sat up, eyes darting around the room to check for another presence.
Noticing the sliver of light peeking from under the bathroom door, he stood.
Making his way towards the closed door, he listened.
Expecting to here the water of the shower.
He was surprised by the silence.
Ruki always made noise.
Even while getting dressed he'd hum.
Reita rapped lightly on the wood.
"Ruki? You all right?"
Not getting an answer, he pushed the door open.
Eyes immediately finding his lover.
Ruki was sitting on the cold tile floor, arms crossed on the toilet seat.
His cheek resting against his forearm, facing away from the door.
Quickly sitting next to the smaller man, Reita put a hand on his back.
"Baby what's wrong?" he asked, rubbing slow, soothing circles on his love's back.
The vocalist lifted his head and turned slightly.
"I'm sick," he said, sounding like a small child.
Inching closer, Reita asked "Want me to take you to the doctor?"
Like quicksilver, the child was gone.
Replaced by a very angry man.
"I've been to the doctor. Several actually," he growled.
Still speaking softly Reita tried again.
"What did they say?"
"Apparently, I'm pregnant," he spit the words out like an angry cat.
Reita tried to wrap his mind around that simple phrase.
Ruki continued. "Every last one of 'em said it. I'm a miracle of fucking nature."
"Men can't have babies," Reita finally got the words out. "We have the wrong equipment."
Ruki made a sound of disgust. "Tell that to the doctors."
~~
"You're what?" Uruha was the first to speak.
"He's pregnant," Reita repeated dropping himself into the seat next to Ruki.
It had seemed like a good idea to tell their friends.
But Reita hadn't expected Ruki to just blurt it out as soon as they walked in the room.
He wasn't sure how he would have done it.
But this way just seemed wrong.
He took a few minutes to really look at the others.
Kai had his hand over his mouth.
Uruha's eyes were as wide as saucers.
And Aoi, well, Aoi looked the least shocked.
But then, that wasn't really saying anything.
It was Uruha again that managed to find his voice, uttering a soft "How?"
"Sex, Uruha. Unprotected sex. Reita didn't use a condom," Aoi answered sarcastically.
And then Aoi's eyes were on Reita.
"It was you that knocked him up, right?"
"Aoi" both Reita and Kai warned.
Aoi shrugged, "Just checking."
Ruki growled, head in his hands.
Uruha let out an exasperated breath.
"I know that, dumb-ass. I mean how could Ruki get pregnant? He's a guy."
"That's what I thought," Reita said, slumping back into his seat.
"You mean you didn't know Ruki was a guy? Not very observant of you," Aoi teased.
Kai turned and snapped. "If you can't say anything useful, please keep that mouth shut."
Any other time Reita would've laughed at Aoi's expression.
But today, nothing was funny.
Turning back to Ruki, Kai's voice softened. "What are you going to do?"
Letting out a sigh that seemed to come from his toes, Ruki looked up and answered "I'm gonna have a baby."
~~
Ruki pouted.
Trying again, he shook Reita's shoulder.
"Rei, wake up."
The bassist just rolled onto his back.
Ruki's expression changed.
Poking a finger into Reita's side this time.
"I'm hungry," the vocalist complained.
Sitting up, Reita tried rubbing the sleep out of his eyes.
"Huh?" he said, eyes finally starting to focus.
"I said I'm hungry."
"Let's go look and see what we've got," Reita offered, lifting the blanket so he could throw his legs over the side of the bed.
"I've already looked. Nothin' sounds good. Go to the store."
Hiding a yawn behind his hand, Reita nodded.
Remembering the last time Ruki woke him up because he was hungry.
...
(flashback)
"We've got plenty of food here. Let me make you something," Reita had offered.
Ruki was shaking his head.
"Why won't you just go down to the store?"
"It's 2am, baby. I'm tired. Can't you just eat something that's here and I'll go in the morning?"
That's when the tears had started.
"You don't care, do you? You don't care that I'm hungry and don't want anything that's here. You don't care that I'm pregnant. With your baby. You just care about yourself."
Reita tried not to sigh.
He wrapped the sobbing vocalist in his arms.
"You know I love you. What do you want me to get?"
Ruki looked up at him and smiled.
Tears stopping as suddenly as they had started.
(/flashback)
...
Reita made his way to the kitchen.
Setting the grocery bags on the table.
After emptying the bags so that Ruki'd be able to see that yes, Reita'd gotten everything Ruki wanted, the bassist headed for their room.
Only to find the vocalist curled up, sound asleep.
The blond trudged back into the kitchen.
Just to make sure nothing would spoil if he left it out.
Finishing, he returned to their room.
Leaving his discarded clothes on the floor, he quietly climbed back into bed.
Wondering if he was ever going to be able to get a full night's sleep again.
~~
"Has he had any weird cravings?" Aoi asked, smirking at Reita.
"Define 'weird'?" the bassist countered.
Determined NOT to get himself into trouble.
"Ya know. Like peanut butter and pickles. Or ice cream and brussel sprouts."
"That's gross," Reita laughed.
"Does that mean he hasn't asked for it yet?"
"He will never ask for ice cream and any vegetable."
"Are you sure? They say pregnant women have weird cravings."
"Ruki's not a woman."
"That's beside the point," Aoi said, waving one hand.
"What's the point then?" Reita asked, trying to get Aoi to bury himself instead of the blond.
"The point is that Ruki is pregnant."
"And?"
"And when someone's pregnant they eat strange combinations of food. At all hours, day or night. And they have horrible mood swings."
Shrugging, Reita answered, "Maybe Ruki's the exception."
Not willing to give Aoi any information that could make its way back to Ruki and bite Reita in the ass.
"So no mood swings?"
Reita shook his head.
It was a lie, but he certainly wasn't going to volunteer anything Aoi might be able to use.
"No bothering you in the middle of the night to get him food.
"It's not a bother," was Reita's answer.
Aoi narrowed his eyes.
"Is he still getting sick in the mornings?"
"Thankfully, no."
Aoi smiled in triumph.
"Why thankfully? Glad you don't have to hold his head while he pukes?"
"No," Reita almost snapped. "I'm glad that the man I love is no longer bothered by nausea. I'm glad he can keep down what food he eats. I'm glad that he's healthy."
"Okay, okay. Don't get so defensive," Aoi said, holding up his hands.
"Maybe he wouldn't get defensive if it didn't sound like you were giving him the third degree," a quiet voice said from by the door.
Both men turned to look.
And there, in the doorway was a very angry vocalist.
Uruha standing behind him. "He's got a point, Aoi. It did sound like you were trying to bully Reita into a confession."
Reita tried not to look relieved.
Aoi was the one getting into trouble, not Reita.
Ruki walked over to where the two men were sitting, glaring at Aoi the whole time.
Stopping only to give Reita a bright smile before settling on the blonds lap.
Reita waited.
Watching Aoi.
Wondering if the guitarist was going to dig himself into a deeper hole.
Hoping that he'd be smart enough to keep his mouth shut.
And he was.
Aoi clamped his lips together tightly, not uttering a word.
But Reita saw it dancing in his eyes.
The black haired man was thinking something along the lines of 'when was Ruki gonna get too big to sit on Reita's lap?'
Reita shook his head, sighing.
Ruki turned his head, searching for Reita's eyes.
"What?" the smaller man said.
"I'm just glad you're here," the blond murmured.
Laying his head against the shoulder of the man on his lap.
That seemed to satisfy him.
As Ruki put his arm around him and snuggled.
~~
Ruki was sitting on the side of the bed when Reita came into the room.
He was holding his gold pants, looking sadly at them.
"What's wrong?" Reita asked, half-dreading the answer.
Thinking that whatever it was, it upset the smaller man.
And that wasn't a good thing now.
But he also knew that if he didn't ask, he'd be in trouble.
Getting that 'you don't care' speech again.
"I'm fat," Ruki said, pouting at Reita.
"No you aren't," Reita tried to reassure the smaller man.
"Yes, I am," Ruki insisted, holding up his favorite pair of pants. "If I wasn't getting fat, I'd still be able to get into these. But since I can't, I'm getting fat."
Reita tried to think fast.
If he didn't find a way to diffuse this situation, Ruki was going to cry again.
He was sure of it.
Sitting next to the vocalist he tried.
"Baby, you aren't fat. You're pregnant. There's a huge difference."
Ruki turned shocked eyes to Reita.
"You think I'm huge?" it was half-question, half-accusation.
All of the bassist's newly formed alarms went off.
"No, sweetheart. I didn't say that."
"But you think it. That's why you said 'huge'."
Reita could see the tears starting.
Quickly lifting the smaller man onto his lap, he held him.
"No baby, I don't think that. I think you're beautiful," he said, placing a kiss on Ruki's cheek.
"Gorgeous," he added, lips moving to the other's jaw.
"Sexy," came out as a whisper against his neck.
Letting his tongue dart out to taste the skin.
"Delicious," he purred.
Making the man in his lap giggle.
Reita pulled back, smiling.
Ruki had a hand clamped over his mouth.
Eyes gone wide with surprise.
"Did I just giggle?" he asked around his hand.
"Like a schoolgirl," the blond smirked.
~~
Ruki pouted.
It just wasn't fair.
He loved sitting on Reita's lap.
But now, thanks to how far his stomach was sticking out, he couldn't manage it anymore.
"What's the matter baby?" Reita asked sweetly.
Sitting down next to him on their couch.
"I can't get comfortable."
Putting his hand on the smaller mans protruding tummy, the blond smiled.
"You're eight months pregnant. I don't think you're supposed to be comfortable. But let's try something anyway."
The taller man shifted around, until he was leaning against the arm of the couch.
Manuvering them both around until Ruki's back was pressed against his chest.
He placed both hands on Ruki's swollen tummy, gently rubbing them in circles.
Ruki sighed.
This was almost as good.
Even tho he couldn't cross his ankles as Reita had, it was still better than just sitting.
Besides, he could feel Reita.
Warm and solid against his back.
Cradled in the strength of his arms.
"I know I haven't been that easy to live with. You've been great, Rei. Really great."
He felt the others lips against his hair.
"We're in this together. And it seems to me that my job's the easier of the two. You got the tough part. I'm just trying to make things as easy for you as I can. That's all."
"No. That's not all. You never once made fun of me. Even when I started to waddle when I walk. I've been bitchy and demanding. And thru it all you've been sweet. Thanks," he said, turning just enough to look Reita in the eye.
There was a smile on the blonds face.
"I love you, Ruki," he leaned in just enough to brush his lips across the others'.
"I love you too. You're gonna make a great dad."
"So are you sweetheart."
The smaller man laughed. "And here I thought I was the mommy."
