Yay, that was FUN. Loved all the little details, the dialogue was great and the LEGPAIN was excellent. Very awesome little fic. :D

Glad the limpy/legpain worked. I have not done a lot of whump and Roque is pretty picky about how bad she wants our boy staggering around.

Thanks for commenting!

No. You can't make Dean leave his horse behind. He NEEEEEDS his horse.

Come on, have some compassion...

I was thinking. Mac is the first service animal EVAH, circa 1800s. I wonder if Dean will get him a bright orange saddle pad with a note..."please don't touch me, I am working"

You are right though, Dean needs Mac.

I almost never (well - never, actually) read western au's because so often the Horsey stuff is just soo awful - with the dragons running shotgun on this, though, I knew you were in good hands even if you aren't obsessed with the four-legged beasties... - I LOVE the very knowledgable little bits you've thrown in - right from leg yield to cantel (though I would quibble that it might be easier for Dean to toss his leg over the horn instead...)to how Dean knows the livery is ok...
but I agree -- you can't let Dean leave Mac there -- I need the reunion!!!!

Well, I iz a horsey girl too. I find it hard to read horseystuff too unless it is correct. You know even little things drive me nuts. The horse woman cringed in me for making poor Mac spin and lope off without a proper warm-up! (but the fangurl realized that no one wants to read a half hour warm up with transitions and lengthening, stretching exercises!)

I am trying to figure out if the dismount would be better your way. I am not sure, but I appreciate you thinking about it.

Cowboy!fic always makes me smile. Maybe I can get Mac and Dean back together.

Heeeee for the Beasties! Trust me - I've been crippled up (non-permanently thank God!) enough that I've had to be creative in my dismounts - and like Mac, my horses have always been very patient with my squirming and slithering off of them. And no worries about the lack of warm up - no real cowboy would give the spin and lope off a second thought! Warm up? Whazzat?
I had a clinician once tell me to just canter off from a halt (after warming up - which I'm told mine always take too long) - after all he posited, she does it all the time in the field. To which I answered "um... not actually. In fact - never." She always trotted off... Funny how different both horses and disciplines can be about some things!

Hee, hee. You make me laugh. The clinician is right but still, we are responsible for them and everyone knows a warm horse will work better (and we will have less vet bills!) I have been horribly banged so I know of what I speak when it comes to hurty after horse.

Thanks again for all the lovely horsey talk. *grins and hands you a carrot*

This is great--very cool details--and I love how you're translating canon into the AU.

I am happy the details didn't do you in. The translation is a bit loose, but I'm glad it worked for ya. Thanks so much.
