With my clearance finally done and my backpay from Sykes encashed, I decided to finally buy a digital camera. Over the years I survived taking pictures with my trusty Sony Ericsson P800, or borrowed cameras from generous friends and relatives (I do take care of the things I borrowed, because if I break them, I have to pay for it hehe), and though it works, it really sucks that I can't have a camera on hand for any event.
So after setting aside an amount for savings, I logged into various forums for feedback on two cameras I wanted, Canon Ixus 860 IS and Canon Ixus 80 IS. Compared this and that, until I decided on the former.
This morning, I went with my brother to Hildalgo St. over at Quiapo, where many people say is the best place to buy digital cameras at an affordable price. We looked at Watson's, then at Henry's, where the price for the camera is cheaper. While discussing with Nuks about the merits of the 860 IS, I spotted the Ixus 80 IS.
Long story short, because of the huge differences with the cost, we decided to get the 80 IS (though we were sorely tempted by the Sony DSC-H7, which costs only a few thousand pesos more). For me, the major difference would be with the lenses. 860 IS has 28mm lenses, which makes it good for wide angle shots and group pictures (because they take in a bigger scope, I think). 80 IS is lightweight and easily fits a shirt or jeans pocket.
I haven't explored the features quite well just yet, but I'm quite happy with it. I've used it during the Ozine Fest today, and it's quite good. Wishing for the 28mm lens though, but that's ok. Everything else works for me.
Nuks and I plan to save up for a DSLR in a few months time. Hope it pushes through. :D
