I saw Return of the King the Saturday that it came out and I'm just getting around to mentioning it here. Does this tell you how hectic the last few weeks have been? Needless to say, I loved it with a passion. I don't think there is anything that I can say that hasn't been said already by someone else, and said better. Also, it has been a while since I first saw it so my emotions aren't as strong as they were then. I do remember crying practically the whole film. Sobbing actually.
Cold Mountain is another one that I saw over Winter Break. I own the book, but I haven't read it yet. I feel embarrassed about it because it is an award winning novel by a fellow Tar Heel. I vow to read it before the year is over. Back to the movie. First of all, I was bitter about them not filming it here in the state. We have a very strong filming tradition here and would have been proud and thankful to have it here. It came down to money, what can we say? The movie was very good. It showed how war affects everyone. All the actors did wonderful jobs. I especially loved Renee's Ruby. She was so strong, and sweet at the same time. Reminded me of my Grandmother and stories I've been told of my Great-Grandmother. Jude Law is now the newest entry on my cutie actor list. My Lord, is he hot!
The love scene at the end with Ada...wow! Yes Ma'am! I know how the movie ended is supposed to be tragic and poignant, and I understand and respect that. However, I personally chose to believe that he shot the bad guy and lived happily ever after with Ada. Call me a sappy romantic girl (I can't believe I'm thinking it about myself), but that's how I chose for it to end.
I have yet to see Big Fish (also a novel by a Tar Heel author-He lives in CH and teaches at UNC). I think I'll catch it on video along with Peter Pan. As much as I want to see these two, and as much as I love Ewan I can wait.
