Catching up

I'm feeling happily readjusted to Seattle.  And really quite happy in general.  My one current source of stress is having my coworker quit last week- in theory, I should be taking on her workload any time now.  But in practice, it's been slow as we ramp up for tax season and get our audit clients sorted out for the new year.  I would rather be busy than bored, but I'm also concerned about my miniscule attention span. Oh well, we'll see if I can still handle large workloads when I actually have them.  I was expecting to work every weekend in March and early April in any case.

I have been managing my general happiness levels by going to yoga at 8 limbs during lunch twice a week.  My friend and fellow Odissi dancer Douglas teaches an ass-kicking, thought-provoking, and mentally cleansing class every time.  I also went sport climbing with Brian at the new Vertical World gym in Magnolia last night. I would probably climb more often if my climbing shoes didn't hurt my toes incredibly.  But I was a little surprised to find I'm still okay at it- I climbed a 5.9 route, which I think was more than I ever managed at the old gym.  I suspect the levels have been dumbed-down because the walls are now 40' instead of 25. And I'm intending to get back into some aikido this winter, now that I live in walking distance of the dojo again.  I have been starting to feel a little winter lethargy when I'm not getting enough exercise, and I don't feel motivated enough to practice dance at home several nights a week.  Odissi dance class on Sundays has been good now that we can concentrate on technique instead of constant group rehearsal.

Bouncy house is going well. Erin taught me to use her serger this week, and I'm in love! I'm still working on doing enough grocery shopping to cook in my preferred way, but I have been reveling in the chance to make soups and kale salad.  Brian is quite happy with his job, and generally snowboarding once or twice per week.  Nils, Brian, and my brother have been climbing regularly at the new bouldering gym on Rainier.  We've been throwing small parties regularly, and generally enjoying using the household space.

I've been pleased to have a break from performances to catch up with friends and do the kind of physical activities that don't normally fit into our four-to-five rehearsal weeks all fall.  After almost a month in India, Seattle winter just doesn't seem as grim and desolate.
