I was on a major reading kick these past few weeks. I finished Armageddon's Children by Terry Brooks, Good Omens by Neil Gaiman and Terry Prachett, and Neverwhere by Neil Gaiman. All three were amazing, but I'm torn between the last two for best of the three.
Good Omens is a hilarious tale of Armageddon and the forces of good/evil who try to stop/bring it about. It's also highly slashable. I mean, when a character is described as "gayer than a tree full of monkeys on nitrous oxide" and always has perfectly manicured nails, what are we fangirls supposed to think? I love the quirkiness of the plot and the characters, and the best part is, it has a fandom! Maybe not a large one, but there are plenty of fanfics and arts out there for me to devour. It even has it's own club on Y-Gallery. >: )
Neverwhere is a dark fantasy with plenty of surprising twists and turns. The setting is amazing, dangerous, and enthralling. It also has The Angel Islington, who for spoiler reasons, I will not elaborate on any further. Let's just say it's awesome. VERY awesome. My favorite character. The book also plays straight the fact that angels are sexless. The only time Islington is ever referred to with a gender is by the main character, who doesn't know any better. I think that's cool.
So yah. I'm gonna go off and draw some Islington fanarts now... I'm sure you can all tell by this point that it's turned into one of my newest fan obsessions.
