VALENTINE's DAY

Feb 19, 2006 22:17

Last Friday, James and I celebrated our Valentine’s Day. I am not really so much of a fan of this occasion since I somehow believe that it’s really just one big hype, and I happen to be in denial about my own cheesiness so I was somehow reluctant about the whole thing. But then again, I do want to feel loved and special. And as James said, it is important to him since it’s been 3 years since he last took participation in celebrating the big “V Day”.

I want to mention though that last Tuesday, THE actual V Day, I surprised James by buying him one-yes, just one-long-stemmed red flower. I am so sorry but I actually don’t know what it is. It looked like a big red sunflower, though. Anyway, I went to work around 4:30 pm and talked to the guards in the lobby. I asked them to personally hand it to James around 5:15 or 5:30 pm. They know me and they sure know James because he had a secondment step-up role as a Team Leader back in December.  I told them I wanted to surprise him and they were good enough to do me a favour. Around 5:20, they sent an email to James-Yes, our guards have access to the office centralized emailing system. High tech no? I was amazed myself when James told me that the guard sent him an email-and he went downstairs to pick up that “something” for him in the lobby. He came back up with the flower and sent me a message on SAMETIME, our centralized office chat server. “No one has EVER given me a flower.” He was so happy, obviously. I am so glad that he liked it. I kinda told him before that I was to give him a flower but I guess, he didn’t expect that I’d really do it. It was a great surprise.

But then back to last Friday.. I went to edit my radio article in SBS last Friday. So that lasted in the morning. By the way, my life has been so hectic for this week because I started my other course last Monday. Yes, I am crazy and I am taking two courses at the same time. They’re not bachelor degrees though so it’s not that tough. So I’m taking up IT Web Design Certificate I-I am planning to finish up to Certificate IV by July-in the morning and Advanced Diploma of Business Management in the afternoon. And then, I work from 5-8 in the evening. Hahaha. Social life? What social life? But hey, after my ABSCBN days, I don’t complain or whinge that much anymore.

So, anyway, after editing, I went to his place. That’s after buying him the boxed set of Furturama Season 3. He’s already got the first two and I know he wants to buy the third. I even had to ask my friend Odell to fish out which seasons James got because I kinda forgot. Yes, I’m a bad girlfriend. Anyway.. so I came to his place after doing some groceries as well to get the ingredients for the pasta that I was planning to cook for dinner. That’s after buying the gift. Hahahaha. So there there. I got to his place and I was surprised when he opened the door coz he was dressed up. Normally, he just wears his jogging pants at home. He’s wearing a white polo shirt and jeans. Hmm.. he smelled good, too. Wow. Base 1. Passed. So he said hi and we kissed HELLO. And we went to his room to sit on the bed where we exchanged gifts. That’s after getting all mushy and saying Happy V Day etc.  So we handed each other our gifts. I placed his gift inside an oversized box so he wouldn’t know. And I knew what he was planning to get me anyway, even though he placed it in a box.

I opened it and saw a nice reddish pink set of lingerie. It’s mainly satin with some mesh ruffles. It’s got some ruffle straps with brown ribbons and lining. And it had some sequins or I think they’re more like sparkly studs shaped into ahearts. One on the centre of the top and the other on the bottom. Very cute. It has detachable straps for hosiery but he didn’t get them coz apparently, they were being sold separately and the shop didn’t even have ‘em. So, I kinda knew about this coz he made me pick it from a catalogue and asked for my size. Nonetheless, I was very touched and pleased coz I like being girly sometimes. Okay, I’m so girly now, fine.

He opened my gift and he liked it so much. Of course! And then, he suddenly said, “Ouch! Ouch!” And I thought something was pinching him or something. Then, he reached to his backpocket and handed me a small brown box with a ribbon. I got so scared. I immediately had my Panic Button ON. I was thinking to myself, “But I thought he said exchanging rings is cheesy.. And wait! Isn’t it too early to be given a ring? And oh, maybe, it’s not a ring. Yes, perhaps, it’s not..” So I said, “No.. No..” And he jokingly said, “Okay, I can return it if you want….”  I nervously took it from his hand and said, “I don’t want to open it in front of you…” I tried to turn my back from him but he refused and exclaimed, “No! I paid for this look/reaction.. I want to see this..” Hahaha. Fair enough. So I turned to him and awkwardly untied the ribbon. I was trying to close my eyed and peek as I opened it. And there it was.. It’s a silver and gold ring. One of these days, I’ll post a photo.  I normally don’t like gold but it was just pretty, and the fact that James gave it to me, made it even prettier. I felt so weak and I felt my lips pouting and forming a frown. Then, my eyes got teary-eyed and I busted with a slow series of nervous and broken laughter. James smiled and said to me, “Aww.. Baby, don’t cry. Come here. I’ll give you a hug.” I leaned forward and hugged him.

Then, he gently pressed his eyes to my face and fluttered his eyelashes. He pulled back and smiled to me. “There you go.. Butterfly kisses,” he said.  Yes, James and his signature butterfly kisses. They never fail to cheer me up.  They’re the best and sweetest kisses anyone has ever given me.
