be careful with photographers. make sure that no matter what you get the negatives or the digital files in the end, you will really regret it if you don't and you later decide you want to get some more prints because they will charge you millions. wedding photographers make most of their money off reprints. also try to get someone who has an assistant who will be shooting, you want 2 people photographing everything, so someone can get all the formal pics and someone can get all the candid shots. and if you're not super traditional you should consider doing the formal wedding party pictures before the wedding so you're not limited so much by the time between the ceremony and the partying, and that way you and randy can relax after the ceremony and enjoy the cocktail hour or whatever with your guests.

At my uncle's wedding, we put a disposable camera at every table. Granted most of the pictures didn't turn out all that great, but you are sure to get pictures of everyone that way. Some came out real good. From what I remember, it was cheaper than getting the photographer (and assistant) to stay for the entire wedding. He just did the important shots and then left.

hopefully i can have people take snapshots, too, to get lots of the candid shots. but i want some real photos from the reception.

i haven't found any place that gives you the negatives ; ( the one place that gave digital files had crappy packages for their wedding albums and just bad quality (grainy, eyes closed) and this was their supposedly best-of-the-best example album.

ask if you can give them $100 for the negatives or something like that. i understand its their business, but i HATE it when wedding photographers don't let you have the negs, you already end up paying them tons of money for their services and such for the day, they are just trying to rip you off on reprints later.
