When I browse through people's tumblr's it seems like little more than a dumping ground for animated gifs. I set up an account long ago that I occasionally stick silly stuff on, but I still don't quite *get it*.

Yeah, I think Tumblr exists mainly for animated gifs and jpgs. In other words, to look at the pretty.

It was originally created just to be that, the sharing of pretty pictures, but I think once fandom got involved it has become so much more than that (tagging conversations, ramblings, reblogging other ramblings to add your own input, etc.)

Which is hard to describe to anyone new to Tumblr, really. Many won't get it , especially most of us used to having regular blogs, Tumble is just a whole different beast altogether. You just gotta dive right in there and see for yourself how things operate.

I haven't used tumblr in like 3 years but I browse it for gifs all the time. All I can say is if you can't make graphics... the repost button is your best friend.

I followed you. :) (and I run the fuckyeahmichaeltrucco tumblr too if you want to follow that), but I go weeks where I'm there constantly, mostly looking, and then weeks where I don't go at all. It can get on my nerves pretty quick. I suppose part of it's because I don't really think of my tumblr as being "me " - it's still a public space and I just sort of use it? I don't know, it just doesn't feel all that personal, just reblogging other people's stuff mostly.
