Hunger Games fic rec
Have you ever wondered how the Career tributes came to be the way they are? Particularly those from District 2, where the Capitol tends to draw their Peacekeepers from? Wondered what could turn a child into a killing machine? Or if those killing machines, inside, might actually be human beings with their own feelings and wants and dreams?

Instead, go read azelmaroark's amazing, intense, and ultimately incredibly moving 5-part fic that follows Cato and Clove from their childhood in District 2 through their training for the Games and to their bitter end in the arena of the 74th Hunger Games. It answers so many questions I didn't even know I had about the Careers and their training and the things that motivate them. By the end of these, the last half dozen paragraphs of part 5 (which is where the link leads, but it has itself links to parts 1 - 4), I was literally in tears for these two, particularly Cato. Seriously, I had to leave my desk so I wouldn't be embarassed by someone walking by my office.
