AAAAAARRRRGGGGGHHHHHH!!!!!!!!

So, it's about 1:00 pm and I just got home from going into work. Not home from work, mind you. Going to work was the plan. Have my car die on the freeway, leaving me to wait by the side of the road with huge frakking trucks hurtling past for a tow-truck, not so much.

*headdesk to infinity*

I got up this morning and all was well. It was going to be a "jeans" day at work, so no horrid fashion angst for the day, but I had no clean jeans, so I did a load of laundry, put away some dishes, took the dog for a ride in the pick-up truck for some mulch, and then came home for a cup of coffee and an episode of Chuck. All still well and good.

And then I left for work. Not even halfway there, the battery light comes on and stays on and the check engine light comes on and then goes away. So I decide better safe than sorry and take the exit that will take me to the VW dealership so they can take a look at my car. About halfway to the dealership, everything stops. All the trouble lights go on and the engine dies. I managed to steer (with no power steering) over to the berm at 65 mph, turn on the hazard lights, and get the car stopped.

Luckily, I had my AAA card with me, so I call for a tow. And sit and wait for half an hour. While I'm waiting, I call work and give them the good news (won't be in today) and call the dealership to let them know I'm bringing (or rather dragging) the car in to be fixed. Sadly, that had to be left on their voicemail. O_o

Once at the dealership, they tell me the alternator is probably the issue, but they won't know for sure until they can take a look at it, which they can't guarantee will happen today. They offer a courtesy shuttle to drive me home, so I say sure and go wait for them to tell me when my ride is here. And wait. And wait. Come to find out (by asking the driver of the courtesy shuttle when I see him pull in and just sit there) that the shuttle doesn't go to where I live, doesn't go more than 10 miles from the dealership. My home is 13 miles. Downtown Columbus, where I work, is also about 13 miles. No one bothered to mention that when the shuttle was offered.

So I go back inside, pretty pissed off, because now I'm stuck, no one is available to come get me for hours and a cab will cost at least $40. Lucky for me, the people at the dealership instead said, "We'll take you home. We'll work it out somehow." The "somehow" turned out to be one of their car-wash guys who drove me home at least in part so he could have a change of scenery. Paullo from San Salvador who goes home every winter because he loves Ohio in the summer (he says summertime here is very like San Salvador all year round), but can't stand the cold.

Now I get to wait for a call to find out how much the repair is going to be (not to mention what all needs to be done) and when I can get my car. :(

I hate cars.
