This was really good, very atmospheric and evocative.

This line; Reaching out, Sarah picked up the fallen queen. She turned it over between her fingers, noting the nicks and discoloration that marred the plastic piece, and the rest through to the conclusion gave me chills!

This is a nice view of that time period. There's so much to explore in show canon, I'm surprised there aren't more stories like this. (Or maybe I've been looking in the wrong places...)

I really like this. One thing about the end of the show is that the people who stick around tend to be the ones with the most evocative sense of the show.

"she had to wonder if John had lost his queen or if he'd sacrificed her to some long-term goal." Isn't that the question. She's been telling him to leave her behind his whole life. You have to wonder how she's going to take it when the time finally comes. (Born to Run, I'm looking at you).

Thank you so much! Heh. I set out to write something that was just dripping with atmosphere, so I guess I succeeded. :P Man, I miss this show.

I absolutely love this. It's gorgeous with the green canopy overhead and the rain beating down on the leaves. I can feel this jungle. And the story itself really cuts to the heart of the relationship between Sarah and future!John - the chess game, the sacrifice. So. good.

Sarah shivered as cold fingers danced down her spine. Intellectually, she knew those phantom fingers were the rain that trickled down her back, but the sensation felt more like a portent of things to come.

I want to marry that.
