I was planning on writing today, since Fridays are usually slow at work and I have several ficathons I stupidly signed up for. Have I done that? Nope. What have I been doing? Why reading a fascinating, educating, and sometimes frightening discussion that mycenae linked to this morning.

On a related note, I've been following a lot of the Silence is the enemy posts at ScienceBlogs in particular; really the horror stories from places like Congo are vomit-inducing as are the gut-wrenching stories of sexual violence in Bosnia & Serbia from the 90s. As if what happens in our own backyards isn't bad enough...

It's not at all a comfortable discussion, whether you're a woman or a man, but it is an important discussion if you're a human being.

Well said. I'm astounded by the freedom and willingness to exchange such personal stories there (in the first few comments I read). That's a pretty amazing and cool response.

Well, that's a hell of a thing. Now I have twelve pages of comments to read, and I may have something to say. You HAD to put me on to that, didn't you? ;}

Yeah, that's a dialogue that needs to happen.

Thank you for sharing this. There are some things that we, as women, just *know* but it can be difficult to articulate these things to the men in our lives. This will be a great resource for me when I have these discussions with the men in my life (husband, father, son.)
