it seems I have a fic kink...

Apparently, I like my fictional POV characters a little bit broken. Sometimes a lot broken. With one notable exception.

In order of my fandom discovery, even if I was never in that particular fandom:

cut for spoilers for the Battlestar Galactica, Farscape, the X-Files, Burn Notice, Terminator: the Sarah Connor Chronicles, Dollhouse, Supernatural, Buffy the Vampire Slayer (and by extension Angel), Dark Angel )

Broken/damaged characters are always more interesting than your run-of-the-mill hero-types. And it doesn't hurt that they're usually played by very pretty people:).

I don't know why it's taken me this long to figure it out, but there you have it. And yeah, I know all of you probably figured this out long ago. :P
*snicker*
The only reason I figured it out before this is because you and I are so similar. ;D

Where's the lure in people who aren't broken and don't have issues? We wouldn't be drawn to them and want to try to "fix" them. :)

Watching people with no issues and angst would be like watching Winnie the Pooh. BORING.

Aw...you didn't find Pooh's struggle with his lifelong honey addiction and apparent death wish by tying himself to a skyward bound balloon (as well as his deep psychological terror of hephalumps) GRIPPING drama??? LOL...

I watched the Winnie the Pooh video with my eldest son (when he was little) so many times it broke. Sorry, just not gripping drama. Maybe I became desensitized? :)

Alec's adopted last name was McDowell. And I think broken is the fandom default setting; we tend to like layers and layers come with being broken down and having to rebuild.

They really do all need hugs, don't they??? And then there's Sharon and Sam who have to have come from one of the deepest places of personal turmoil over the realization of who they used to be and how they can possibly get beyond to just be the "normal" people they want to be...

And my sentimental fav, Maggie who wraps herself up in all the armor and snark she can to keep from falling apart over losing everything she loved while trying to find her place in a world that she'll always feel unrequited in...

Yep...big round of hugs all around...
