what I did on my (not so) summer vacation...

It was awesome meeting up with roxybisquaint and her husband. So much fun! I wish I could have met with poisontaster, too, but as it turns out, she was trying to juggle meeting up with me and planning her wedding later in the week, and something just had to go. Sadly, for some reason, she chose sixersfan over me. *sigh* ;)

We got so much exercise! Generally, we do a lot of walking when we’re on vacation, electing to walk rather than drive or even take public transportation whenever possible. But this time? We walked from the heart of downtown D.C. all the way to first Ben’s Chili Bowl for lunch (about 15 blocks) and then, after lunch, we walked from the restaurant to the National Arboretum, which ended up being another 3.5 miles or so. Which turned out to be a mistake, because we were exhausted by the time we got there and it took us long enough that the visitors’ center and gift shop were closed. Next time, we’ll just go ahead and drive. :P

Guess who I ran into on my vacation? Matt Parkman! Erm, I mean, Greg Grunberg. My husband and I were with his aunt visiting George Washington’s home, Mount Vernon, when I turned around and had to do a double take. And then I told my husband, and he walked into the room to check it out and confirmed that if it wasn’t him, it was his clone. He was there with his family, doing all the same touristy stuff we were doing, pictures and geeking over history and all and from the looks of things, no one else realized who he was. I was a little bad in that I went over to him when he was standing back a little from the others and told him that I loved his work on Heroes and he got this huge grin and thanked me, telling me I was sweet to say so.

The highlight of the museum, though, was the pretty amazing forensic history exhibits that were originally chronicled by the History Channel in their special a while back that took every bit of physical evidence of what Washington looked like, measurements and old pieces of clothing (or, you know, dentures) and things like that to recreate what he looked like and regressed that image to come up with busts of Washington at 19, at 45, and at 57 and they were just amazing.

The highlight of the whole vacation, though, was visiting Great Falls National Park (the Virginia side) with my husband and his aunt. The falls were gorgeous and I'll try to be good and post some pictures, not only from there but also from Mount Vernon.

(For those of you wondering, I did finally see BSG, but that's for another post.)

ETA: If anything happened while I was gone that I should know about (or would just plain want to know about), please link me? :)
