A Year of Spots

So, it's Memorial Day weekend here in the States, and that means our first anniversary of the Spotted Dog. :P

One year ago, Spots was skinny and dirty and living in the woods behind our house. Today she's still a little skinny, but she's no longer dirty or hungry or, really, wanting for anything.

A year ago, she flinched if you raised your voice, even if it wasn't directed at her or raised in anger. She flinched if you moved too fast. If she thought you were even thinking about being mad at her, she'd go hide under the deck or under the house itself. She's just a little thing and thus easy to pick up and carry, but a year ago, if you tried, she cried and squealed and in general acted like it was THE WORST THING EVER, OMG!

Today? She's not even the same dog. The transformation is amazing. Now she knows the difference between a voice raised in anger and a voice raised in exuberance (something she has an overabundance of). You can move as fast as you want near her and all she'll do is look at you and say, "You want to play? Really? OKAY!" She hasn't tried to hide from us for a good six months and she loves to be carried around. She hero worships both my husband and Tasha (poor Tash, she keeps asking me to get this damn kid away from her and I keep telling her that now she knows how Layla felt about her :P). When something scares her or if she doesn't feel good, she comes running to me to cuddle 'cause she knows I'll make the bad stuff go away. And every once in a blue moon, she'll manage to curl up in my lap along with Bayo (but they always have their backs to each other, black and white dog pretending black and white cat doesn't exist and vice versa).

I'm so glad we decided to take her in. :)
