a quick thought on Kara Thrace and fan reaction to a certain line...

Okay, so I don't have 4x01 handy to actually quote, but. In the memorial hallway, when Kara tells Sam that he's a better person than she is because if she ever found out that he was a Cylon, she'd put a bullet between his eyes?

I'm really kind of amazed that most people seem to be taking that at face value.

I mean, of course she'd say something like that at that place and time. And she may even have meant it, at that time. But she showed that exact same type of reaction to seeing Sharon Valerii, one of her best friends, on Caprica after she'd just left her in the Fleet. Sudden revelation that someone she loved was a Cylon and her knee-jerk reaction is to kill her.

Her attitude toward Sharon isn't quite so black and white now, is it?

Kara's expression and body language and her tone of voice (OMG Katee is so good at selling Starbuck!) all spoke to me of a woman who just heard something so ridiculous that she simply discounts it as impossible and responds with a perfect Starbuck-ism. Not to mention the fact that she's in a pretty shocked state from all that's happened since finding Earth and that mental strain is getting worse for her with each jump away from the Nebula.

I'm not saying Sam had better not make sure they're surrounded by other people -- say Helo and Athena at the very least -- when/if he tells her that he is a Cylon, but as soon as the initial shock wears off, I honestly don't think Kara would put a bullet between his eyes. Or in other part of his anatomy, for that matter.

Now, I didn't put a whole lot of thought into that, it's just opinion on what I'm seeing around fandom today vs. what I thought when I watched the scene those first three times. :P

Feel free to discuss!
