BSG con report, Saturday edition, part 2

Yeesh. I finally had a chance to write some of this up. *rolls eyes at self*

After Tricia and James were finished, they introduced Mr. Ronald D. Moore. You could just tell the man is pleased as punch with everything that’s going on in his world right now, even with the Emmy disappointment.

The highlights, for me at least:

- the first two episodes, Occupation and Precipice, will air as the season premiere, ala 33 and Water for season one

- there will be a separate storyline on a Cylon basestar, reminiscent of Helo’s separate storyline on Caprica in season one

- Lee and Dee will get a lot more development this season as a couple. They took some chances last season that ended up not working as well as they’d thought they would because of other factors so that no one was really satisfied with the way that storyline developed, so they’re hoping to address that better in s3.

- he mentioned that, although he thought they’d mined the original series for all they could, “an Athena” would be introduced in s3, whatever that means

- he confirmed that Lee and Dee are indeed married

- inconsequential though it may be, the outer tank our pretty pilots (and others) wear is olive drab

Following RDM’s panel, we did the autograph thing for James, Tricia, and RDM, who was accompanied by his wife and kids, at least for a little while. I think the kids got a little bored, so mom took them off somewhere. Hee. Anyway, while we were in line, I recognized Michelle from Hangar Deck 5 and we went over and introduced ourselves and, since she and her husband also had gold tickets, we decided to meet up at the dessert party, later that evening, which featured Tricia and James.

Lark and I got all gussied up, she (I think) in some of the new stuff she’d bought during our shopping excursions and me in my black leather jeans and a bright, tie-dyed tank with a sheer, long-sleeved top over it, which went pretty well with my swanky new haircut. :P As planned, we met Michelle and Jeremy (her husband) and also Son of Joxer (Joel) from HD5. Joel had an entry in the centerpiece contest Creation ran and his centerpiece was incredible. One of those things that at first glance doesn’t really jump out at you, but it stays with you to the point that you keep coming back to it to see what you might have missed the first dozen times you looked at it.

He created a display of some of the “last books from the Galactica gift shop” - a set of paperback novels like the pulp fiction of the 50s and 60s. They were essentially book-sized boxes covered in computer-generated grapics, but you had to actually have them in your hands and look closely to see that - he even made “smudges” on the “edges” of the “pages” to make it look like the “books” had been read before, they way they do when many fingers have left behind their prints in the same spot. Tons of detail, right down to the fact that one of the “books” was the only book that Laura Roslin had brought with her to read on her flight from Caprica to the Galactica for the decommissioning. Hee.

But! Our boy was robbed! The fickle judges (Adam of Creation Entertainment and his little girl), who seemed to just adore Joel’s display more and more as they discovered more things about it, chose a display of cookies as the winner. Granted, the cookies had BSG pictures airbrushed onto them, but still.

Anyway, our table was the last one to see either Tricia or James and thus we were about the last ones to leave the party, because we were determined to wait until we got our time with James. Tricia sat with us for a couple of minutes and marveled over Joel’s display and, by that time, I’d had enough wine to be a little giggly and not really paying attention to much of anything, so I honestly don’t remember what she talked about. I’m sorry, Tricia! :( When James sat down with us, though, another con attendee ran over to invite him to the bar with her group after he was done and then she invited us over to the bar, too. One of those the more the merrier sorts of things. :D

So, after talking to a… well, let’s face it, a drunk James Callis ‘cause I think people were buying him drinks all evening, for a couple of minutes, we all trooped over to the bar. Lark and I sat at the bar and had a couple more glasses of wine, then Michelle and Jeremy joined us and ordered shots. A *lot* of shots. :P And, lo and behold, in wandered James and his handler to join those of us BSGers in the bar. Last call came around and we ordered some more wine and some more shots and I went over to where James was sitting and chatted with him about inconsequential stuff for a minute. Poor guy was bleary-eyed. Then Lark called me back over to where she was sitting and asked if I’d get his autograph on a napkin for her. So I took it over to him with a pen and asked, pointing out Lark on the other side of the table, and James grinned at her and then me and autographed that napkin. I had to ask him what it said before his name. He laughed and told me, “Smokin’!” Hee.

And then they came to actually kick us all out of the bar, so the party moved outside, in front of the hotel entrance. Talked to James a bit more about acting and living in LA versus London, etc, and some guy from Columbia wandered over and started talking to us all about anything we’d respond to, and kept trying to bum beer off of us.

Lark came out to grab me and Michelle when she stumbled across another group of us in the lobby watching music videos on somebody’s laptop, so the two of us went in there to escape Columbian Beer Guy. The one whose vid’s were being shown was Birthsister, who I knew from Farscape fandom years before, so that was pretty cool. But then CBG followed us in there and started watching BSG videos and bumming for beer again. He didn’t even know what BSG was, but if it got him beer, he’d watch ‘em. *snerk* Sometime Michelle and Jeremy faded away and then I saw James head back in to go up to his room, and mini beer runs were made to the room of one of the guys watching vids, since he and his roomie had a stash up there. Poor CBG kept being neglected though, up to the point where I finally left because I was so wiped out. It was about 4:30 in the morning when I left. Lark told me later that she finally gave in and gave CBG a beer if he promised to shut up. I think she finally came up to bed around 5:00 or so. Gah!

And thus ends Saturday, sometime well in Sunday. *headdesk*

Look for my equally rambly Sunday report, one day soon...
