Oh, yes. This is what I love best about Smallville: future-fic. I love it for the potential, for the fall-out in the future, the rift and sometimes the possibility of them coming back together.

If he'd been completely sober, he might have realized that he'd never once said those words to Clark

YES, YES!!! That's it, exactly. In all his attempts to coerce Clark out of his secrets, to go behind his back or manipulate things to his advantage, never once did he think to let Clark know it was safe to tell him. Love that.

Hee hee!! ^_^ That's a lot of what I like about SV in general: the potential for the future.

I'm so glad that line struck a chord. It's *so* going to come back in part 2. How would Clark have *ever* felt safe with him or trusted him?

Very good part! I always dread those stories where Clark is held responsible for everything and he feels all guilty for misunderstanding poor innocent Lex but this seems not to be the case here. I'm glad this is about healing the rift and coming to terms with their mutual feelings.
Looking forward to part 2.
