Anniversary
“Are you gonna tell me what's wrong, or what?”
Clark lifted his head from the story he'd been working on for the better part of an hour and blinked at Lois. Crap.
“Um,” was all he got out as he realized he was starting to fidget. He'd been trying not to think too much about it, but....
Lois only raised an eyebrow at him from the other end of the couch as she laid the notebook she'd been jotting article notes in aside.
Clark heaved a sigh. “You're gonna think it's stupid.”
“After everything we've been through? Come on, you know me better than that. And I know something's been bothering you since last night, so what is it?”
Setting his laptop down on the coffee table, Clark searched for a way to tell her. It would come out sounding completely absurd, he was certain.
A deep breath, and he looked her in the eyes. “Today's the twentieth.”
Lois's features twisted in confusion. “Okay....”
“It's been a year since I came home.”
“No, it hasn't. That's not for another five days,” she countered.
Clark shook his head. “That was the day I came back to the Planet, and well, you know the rest.” Another deep breath. “The twentieth was the day my ship crashed in Ma's field. The day I came home to Earth.” He just knew Lois would laugh, he-
He wasn't expecting a sudden lap full of Lois, her legs straddling him as she kissed him deeply. She writhed against him, and he couldn't help a moan of pleasure, leaning up into her kiss and tasting the day on her lips, coffee and the apple pie they'd had for dessert after dinner.
“How could you think I would find that stupid, Clark?” she asked as she drew back then, looking him square in the eyes. “And why didn't you ever tell me you got home on the twentieth? That's important to me, too, you know.”
“I....” But Clark didn't really have an explanation. “I don't know,” he admitted. “I guess I thought the twenty-fifth was more important. At least, to the world. And especially since CNN isn't running that One Year Later special until mid-October.”
Lois swatted him on the arm, scowling at him. “CNN? Seriously? Seriously!? CNN is obsessed with tragedy. They wouldn't know good journalism if it bit them on the face.”
“You've been hanging around Perry too much,” Clark smirked up at her. Then, “Besides, they run those CNN Heroes specials all the time. They've got a good feel for some things.”
“Okay, okay, I can see that,” Lois conceded. “But!” she pointed out, leaning close and stabbing Clark's chest with an index finger. “They don't know squat about this.” And with a dark smirk, she swooped down to kiss him firmly again, pressing her body into his, her hips grinding down onto his growing erection.
It was all Clark could do to keep from ripping her clothes off right there, his whole body lighting up with need and relief and his love for his wife.
“So, we should celebrate,” Lois breathed against his lips. “You've been home a year, and we've been together and married almost that long. I've been thinking about it, and I think it's time.”
“Time?” Clark murmured, stroking up her sides as she stilled on his lap.
Lois nodded as she leaned close to whisper in his ear, “Time to start trying for another baby.”
Clark's eyes widened so much, he thought his eyeballs might pop out of his head. This. This was unexpected. But... really, really welcome.
“Are you sure?” He had to be certain. There was no going back.
Nodding again, Lois pulled back to smile at him widely. “Oh, yes.”
It was nothing to lift her in his arms then, her legs wrapping around his waist, and carry her to the bedroom where it had all started. A swift kick to close the door, and Clark grinned at Lois's squeal of surprise as her clothes ripped in his hands. Oh, how good it was to be home.
