Cicadas
The sticky August heat is downright oppressive by the time Lana shows up at the lake, but Clark doesn't mind, really. Pushing thirteen and showing it, feeling it, he's just glad she's there; she hasn't been around much since making the JV cheer squad, and he's missed hanging out. They haven't gone swimming in ages.
“What are you waiting for, an engraved invitation?” she teases, stripping off her Crows t-shirt and cut-offs to reveal her bathing suit, miles of pale, freckled skin, and new curves.
As his body reacts, Clark swallows, tries not to stare, wishing he was already in the water.

Metamorphosis
It's triple digits in Metropolis when the AC breaks, the bullpen air becoming a murky soup, unbreathable, unbearable. Clark thinks half the staff will be undressed at this rate, too, his own jacket and tie discarded, when Lois peels off pantyhose and blouse to reveal a fitted chemise, toned shoulders, pale calves, and pink toenails.
Swallowing heavily, he's glad he's not thirteen anymore and they're past all secret-keeping.
“Let's get out of here,” he suggests, “I know just the place to cool off.”
When Lois takes his hand, nodding her agreement, Clark thinks there won't be any swimsuits in the lake this time.
