Politics is Important
Found this awesome political rant (NOT partisan!) via an anonymous person who shall remain anonymous by request (not me, I didn't write it!!), and I couldn't resist passing it on (with permission). Please feel free to spread this far and wide, just remember to credit an anonymous blogger. These are things that need to be said and heard, no matter what side of the fence you stand on.

POLITICS IS IMPORTANT.
Things politics is not about:
* Women getting theirs.
* Black people getting theirs.
* Who said something stupid.
* Who knows someone stupid.
* Whether your team wins.
Things politics is about:
* Life and death.
* Homeless people getting houses.
* The planet not going to shit.
* People killing and hurting other people.
* Who gets help when they need it.
* Did I mention life and death?
Righteous rage:
* People are dying.
* People are sick and can't go to the doctor.
* People aren't able to express their views.
* Kids don't have a chance.
* The government chooses to let people die.
* A candidate has views that I think aren't good for the country/will horribly backfire.
Not-so-righteous rage:
* My favorite didn't win.
* My TV shows are pre-empted.
* The government will take my guns. (No, they won't.)
* The government will take my abortion rights. (No, they won't. They've had that chance.)
* A candidate knows someone eeevil. (They know a lot of people.)
* A candidate is brain-dead. (No, they're not.)
(However, comedy/superficial bitching about any of the above are just fine, thankyouverymuch. But when you start to get really upset about it, that's when IMHO you need to step back and take a breath. And this comes from a former conspiracy theorist.)
Politics is more important than:
* CSI: Las Vegas. Or whatever.
* The World Series (yes, it's more important than the World Series)
Politics is less important than:
* Your immediate family.
* Yeah, that's about it.
Reasons to vote Democratic:
* I agree with Obama on (health care/Iraq/the environment/Social Security/economic policy).
Not reasons to vote Democratic:
* McCain's too old.
* Palin is a Barbie Doll.
* Republicans are criminal bloodthirsty warmongers who want our troops to die.
Reasons to vote Republican:
* I agree with McCain on (health care/Iraq/the environment/Social Security/economic policy).
Not reasons to vote Republican:
* Obama's a terrrrrrist.
* Hillary didn't win the primaries and Sarah Palin is a 'kick ass babe'.
* Democrats are evil socialist Marxists who hate america and want our troops to die.
Reasons to vote:
* Your life might depend on it.
* Your wallet might depend on it.
* Your health might depend on it.
* Your planet might depend on it.
Reasons not to vote:
* You're ineligible.
* Yeah, that's about it.
