A/N: I don't consider this really finished, folks. It's unpolished and rough and unbeta'd, but I don't have any impetus to work on it any more - I wanted there to be more, like the titular 'substitution' sends ripples out into continuity that distort S4 more and more, but I got distracted by another bunny and when I got back, it seemed I had stopped at a natural ending point without really meaning to do so. *shrugs*
