Summary: There’s always a choice…
A/N: I just found this draft among my other works, it's a really old one but I decided to post it cause why not? :D back then I was really shipping Ryoda and I always thought that Ryo’s solo, Stereo would perfectly fit the two of them back when Tat-chan had his hair dyed brown and wore those silver earrings. so it’s kind of the result of that :D
“What do you want, Nishikido?”
His voice wasn't hostile or angry as it would've been expected. It didn’t sound hurt either. Rather tired, as if its owner just wanted to get over with this conversation as soon as possible.
Ueda looked at Ryo the same manner he talked to him. But the Osakan idol saw the pain behind those dark eyes.
The two singers stood in the deserted corridor of the tv studio where KAT-TUN and Kanjani8 had a joint appearance in a talk show. And as it was obvious something went really, really wrong…
“I... wanted to know if you're fine....” he said uncertainly because as he said it out loud, the question sounded lame even to his own ears knowing very well that the older singer wasn't fine at all. And it was his fault.
If only the management wouldn't find this stupid Kansai-Kantou rivalry-act so funny or they would’ve not been forced to play the lead roles… He thought - hoped - it was over with their junior-days but it seemed they found the perfect opportunity to renew it now he was back to Osaka permanently. Ryo knew it actually hurt both of them when Ueda broke-up after he told him he had to move back to Osaka. It was already hard enough to maintain a relationship between idols when both of them lived in the same city, but being in two different cities would've made it harder and it’d been just the matter of time until distance poisoned their relationship and they broke-up hating each other. Then as they weren’t tortured enough, on top of everything this stupid thing came back as well...
“I'm completely fine, thank you. There's no need of you worrying about me anymore, Nishikido” Ueda said keeping his polite distance then turned on his heel to leave.
“You know I didn't mean a word of what I said back there!” Ryo shouted after Ueda's back, just a hint of desperation coloring his voice.
The older idol stopped at this but didn't turn back to face his former boyfriend.
“You say that now when no one else can hear you but...” he started. “In the end you always do what they tell you, don't you? Moving back to Osaka… humiliating me on national tv...”
“Don't be unfair, Tatsuya...” Ryo asked on a silent tone. He wanted to believe the older singer didn’t mean his words, he was just hurt. Still that didn’t mean his words would not sting. “You know that if I could, I'd rather choose to stay in Tokyo with you but they didn't give me the chance! You know just as well as I do, that they never do!” the younger singer said frustrated. “We don't have a choice. Why don't you think it as a dorama role or something? This isn't any more real than those...”
“You’re right about that, Nishikido” Ueda cut in his speech.
The Osakan singer couldn’t stop the tiny spark of hope awakening in his heart.
“We don't have a choice here...” the older said coldly and walked away. He was keeping his back to the other man the whole time so he couldn't see the tears running down his cheeks...
Ueda hoped that was the last time they had to meet. He knew that was actually impossible since they belonged to the same agency but he still nurtured the faintest hope that a long time will pass till their next meeting. Long enough to build protective walls around his heart so the Osakan man can't hurt him anymore.
But he couldn't even imagine what actually happened...
“Moshi-moshi?” he answered to the call from the unknown number with a slightly suspicious tone.
“Don't forget to watch the Music Station live show tomorrow!” the caller said, not bothering to introduce themself.
“Yasuda-kun?” Ueda asked back still a bit unsure and highly confused. “What are you talking about?”
“Just don't forget to watch it!” the osakan singer insisted. Some muffled noise of others talking came from the callers background. “I've gotta go now! Don't forget it!” he repeated hurriedly one more time.
“Wait! Wha...?”
But the Kanjani member hang up on him before Ueda could even finish his question.
“What the heck was it?” Ueda mumbled confused. Why would Yassu want him to watch their Music Station performance? (If anyone would ask, he’d deny till his last breath that he still kept track of Ryo’s works.) They weren't actually friends with Yassu to begin with. They just hung out a few times when... when he was still with Ryo...
Ueda sighed heavily. Fate probably didn't want to let him go easily because even when he wasn’t self-sabotaging his moving on, something had to remind him of Ryo. With another sigh Ueda debated calling Yassu back and demand answers but his call would most probably ignored or cancelled so he just dropped the idea. It seemed he has to wait till tomorrow to what it was about...
The next day and the said time came, and Ueda stood in front of his tv dutifully, staring at it with wide eyes and before he noticed, tears started to stream down his face...
Ryo and the rest of Kanjani8 left the tv station together. As they were piling out of the building, the others were busy discussing where to go to eat before they had to catch the evening train back to Osaka but Ryo stopped immediately as if he bumped into a wall when he noticed the all too familiar figure standing a few steps away from them.
“Ehm... You go ahead, I'll catch up with you later at the train station” he told to his friends.
“Just don't miss it!” Subaru reminded him winking while the others just grinned liked idiots and nodded their heads vigorusly.
“Do your best, Ryo-chan!” Yassu whispered to him smiling brightly as he patted his shoulder encouraging before following their other band members...
“Uhm... Hello!...” he said uncertainly as he walked to Ueda. ‘Very smooth, Nishikido, nice job!...’ he thought cringing inwardly.
“Stereo? Really, Ryo? Are you out of your goddamn mind?” the older singer frustrated. “You should've promote your latest single or not? Do you have any idea what you'll get for it? They'll suspend you for sure!” he said, still hardly believing that Ryo so blatantly went against their orders and sang the same song with what he confessed to him, and on live tv none the less...
“We’ve already got our lecture, you don’t need to repeat it. Well, mostly I was scolded but the guys got their part too for putting up with my “rebellion”...” the Osakan said shrugging.
“How long?” Ueda couldn’t help but ask though a part of him feared the answer.
“How long what?”
“How long will you be suspend? Or how long till you’re officially fired?” Ueda asked and even only voicing those options, he suddenly felt sick. ‘They can’t fire him! Making music, being Kanjani means a lot to him! They can’t take it away from him!’ he thought panicky. He’d rather be broken hearted than see Ryo being stripped from his dream.
“I just got lectured. Fortunately the fans enjoyed it well enough so that's all. But I'll probably have to be more careful with my next moves...” Ryo said and shrugged again as if the whole ordeal meant nothing.
Ueda sighed. He felt relieved that the younger singer won’t be either suspended, not fired but Ryo's nonchalant attitude confused him more than actually hearing him sing that song again.
“Why? Why did you do it?” he asked finally the most important question.
“I hoped you’ll watch and like this you'd understand that I'm serious. I’m serious about you. About us. My feelings didn't change the slightest. I might have to live in a different city, they might order me to say those awful things to you but I'll never, ever will mean them. I never want to hurt you! And I'd try to never hurt you ever again though I most probably might since I’m me… But if only...” Ryo said quickly but running out of breath before he could finish.
“If only what, Ryo?”
The Kanjani singer first thought he heard wrong; he must’ve just imagined that Ueda was calling him by his first name.
“If only you’d give me another chance to prove my love. I'll never disappoint you or let you down ever again!” he said seriously and bravely took the older singer's hand, tugging him closer, his other hand cupping Ueda's face. “Please, let me love you again...” he whispered and seeing his small nod, he captured his lips in a soft, gentle kiss...
A/N: I'll post something Arashi related really soon *wink* in the meanwhile I'll do my homework of catching up the boys work from the past years :)
