Video Games Live

Last night, Vince and I went to Video Games Live at the Henderon Pavillion. This is their first time to perform in Vegas. Initially, Vince was very hesitant in going because we thought we would be stuck in an auditorium full of sweaty fanboys but luckily, it was outdoor arena... so all we had to deal with was "swamp butt".

Horribly low audio and visual quality for Legend of Zelda

----------

It was a pretty entertaining show, they would play game footage on the screen as the Las Vegas Harmonics plays their respective themes. One of the hosts was a also a video game composer. They started off the show by introducing the contestant for the video game costume contest, where first place went to the petite and bloody looking Silent Hill Nurse, judged by the audience cheer.

The show kicked off with a video introduction from Hideo Kojima for Metal Gear Solid. As the orchestra played, a soldier was walking around the stage, not knowing that there was a box following behind him. Within seconds, the signature "!" went up and he ran around the stage.

Afterwards, for a short break, they brought up one of their contest winners. He had to play Space Invaders but the catch is that he has to move around the stage so that the little ship on the screen will move as well. So.. picture a fat guy in a tight black shirt frantically moving left and right on stage. Vince and I chanted "Pass Out! Pass out!" but he ended up losing.

They played a few more themes from Mario, Zelda, Metroid, Kingdom Hearts (much to Vince's dismay), Sonic, Medeal of Honor, Tron, Final Fantasy... Oh! Speaking of Final Fantasy, they brought Michael Leung. He played a beautiful medley of 10 Final Fantasy themes and even performed the Super Mario Bros. theme-- blindfolded. I guess he was so popular on YouTube that he became a fixture on the tour.

They brought in a special guest, Dee Baker. He's a voice actor heard in a few shows and games but mostly does creature voices. To demonstrate this, they played a clip from Gears of War where Marcus Fenix is fighting/avoiding the Berserker (the voice was removed but you still hear the rest of the game) and Dee went NUTS. He started snarling and howling furiously as the Berserker charges and is finally subdued.

Another guest was the composer for Command & Conquer. The game was originally developed here by Westwood Studios. The composer was dressed up in Vash the Stampeded's outfit and had a wicked looking custom guitar (a few people were screaming, "LOVE AND PEACE!").

After playing World of Warcraft, Starcraft and Halo. The show ended but the audience demanded an encore. They came back and played the infamous "One Winged Angel" and Castlevania before finally ending the show.
