Other M
So I picked up the new Metroid game, "Other M." First, I'm a huge fan of Metroid Prime, but did not like either of the squeals. Other M was produced by Team Ninja, which handles Dead or Alive/Ninja Gaiden.
1. Shadow Complex makes a better Metroid game than this. By far. The fact that a $15 game has higher production values and more polish AND nails the Metroid formula more than a main entry in the Metroid franchise is astounding.
2. The story IS offensive - Samus has been reduced to an emotionless puppy on a leash. Way to fuck up a gaming icon. I don't know if they've damaged her to the point where she can't be redeemed from this.
3. None of the gameplay comes together - there's at least three styles: 1st person, 2D, and even 3rd person. None work. No matter what you're doing, the game controls like an utter, chaotic mess. A complete shame.
4. It's linear, VERY linear. A few hours in and this game barely resembles Metroid. Even Prime handled the franchise better, and it had taken a 2D platformer and made it into an FPS.
