Storm Chasing...

Went storm chasing last night...went north and just caught the edge of the main storm we were trying to catch. Then we went to Outback in Troy and got steak. I love steak:)

Leaving Outback it was pretty dark towards the south so Rhett kicked radar on and found a HUGE cell heading towards the Dayton area. We ended up parked in a Dollar General in West Carrollton (sp?) about 20 minutes before that huge ass system came through. Was pretty fucking sweet...the cloud formations and all the lightning. Followed by the heavy rain and the crazy ass winds. Not to mention sitting there in my truck listening to it get pummeled by pea and dime sized hail...along with a small amount of nickel sized hail at one point. After the storm went through we started to head home and my truck went from being a 2wd pickup truck to a swamp buggy. It wasn't even raining anymore and I'm driving down South Dixie Drive just outside of Dayton (heading into Dayton from West Carrollton) behind another car. As we'd driven past some of the downtown areas, the streets were flooded pretty hardcore in the low lying areas. The intersections were completely filled with water. We reported it to Dayton's Skywarn and they thanked us and asked us to let them know if there was any curb to curb water (approx 6 inches deep). Heading outside of town in some higher areas I was following another car going about 40 or 50mph. Next thing I know I see this big fucking tidal wave as the car goes shooting into a pool of water...and there was no chance in hell I was stopping in time so I just grabbed the wheel and drove into it. I gotta admit...it was pretty fun, but my truck did not exactly appreciate it. I shot water into my wiring and my transmission was going NUTS...I'd hit the gas and it'd stay in first gear refusing to shift into second...then I'd be in neutral...then back in first. Then second...then neutral. You get my drift. I ended up pulling off into a Marriot Hotel parking lot and we went back into the back of it where I could pop the hood and check out my engine. Everything was nice and wet, so I just drove around in circles for a few to let everything dry out...after manually shifting the transmission for a few minutes and then tearing ass down a backroad to run it up through the gears it quit acting up and we headed home. Heading home we ended up heading straight into another oncoming storm with some amazing lightning. Was pretty neat.

Okay...I'm done for now...gotta go to work.
