Modifying MetaData for Entries

Hey all, the code below is a slightly modified and fully documented version of the function Entry::print_metadata. This function is responsible for printing the location, mood text and mood icon, music, and tags if applicable, below each entry. I put this in my theme layer and nothing happens. I click "save/compile," but none of my changes show up.

Question: is it possible to completely suppress one or more elements of metadata on the recent entries page (I don't care either way about the friends view)? I want tags only to appear on a comm I mod...

Or barring the ability to nix those elements completely, can a line be added to separate tags from the other data? :)
