Adding Extra Pages

I've seen this tutorial at component_help Link to Tutorial and usually I am pretty decent at taking the principle of the tutorial and applying it elsewhere but I admit this has me a bit confused. My question is, how can I apply this to a Smooth Sailing layout

1: that tutorial isn't very good since it uses component as a base. it's not impossible though.

2: no. it will not affect the load time if you do your flow control correctly.

3: you might be crazy. but crazy is good.

4: would take some hacking and figuring out how to surgically implant it into SS.

After staring at the original component version for a long (long, long, looooooooooong) time, It looks like I'm suppose to do a (forgive me, I really not programmer savvy) and if icon page >>>>>> do this in whatever the function is that writes up the content where the entries show up.

I'm I way off?

that's a very basic idea, yeah.

but i'd like to hack up my own version and make it all pretty and stuff because i'm a pretentious bastard like that. ;)
