line/space above metadata?

I'm using a theme layer for my metadata, but now all that info is too close to the body of the entry. I used a bit of CSS on my old Flexible Squares layout to put a solid line between the entry and the metadata with some padding above and below the line, but obviously that doesn't work on my new Smooth Sailing layout. Does anyone know a way to do that in Smooth Sailing?
