Journal views

Feb 07, 2007 22:36

This tutorial tries to clear up some confusion about the different view types there are in journals, so one won't be mistaken for another. I hope this makes posting about problems with a certain view easier when we all know exactly which one we are talking about.

  1. Recent Page:
The default journal view, which can be reached by the URL your.livejournal.com.
It shows all entries of one journal in the order as specified by the post's date and time.
  2. Friends Page:
It shows the posts made by your friends and posts in the communities you watch. It is limited to the past two weeks. That means if none of your friends posted and none of your watched communities showed any activity within the past two weeks, then your Friends Page will be empty.
    URL: your.livejournal.com/friends
  3. Entry Page:
Here, the post itself, and all comments that were made to it are displayed.
    URL: your.livejournal.com/12345.html
It is also possible that this page only displays a certain thread of comments (which will not collapse comments even if the thread is quite long) below the entry. It can be reached via the (Link) or (Thread) links at the bottom of each comment, or via the link on the collapsed comment.
    URL: your.livejournal.com/12345.html?thread=12345#t12345
  4. Reply Page:
This one shows the post itself, and directly below a form to comment on it. It does not show previously made comments.
    URL: your.livejournal.com/12345.html?mode=reply
This page is also used to reply to other comments, if Quick Reply isn't enabled in the journal. In this case, instead of the original entry, only the comment which one wants to reply to is displayed, also with a form to comment on it right below.
    URL: your.livejournal.com/12345.html?replyto=12345
  5. Tags Page:
It is a list of all tags that have been used on the journal posts.
    URL: your.livejournal.com/tag
  6. Year Page:
Also known as the calendar or archive. It shows tables with the count of posts that were mady on any day of the specified year.
URL: your.livejournal.com/calendar - which leads to the current year
URL: your.livejournal.com/YYYY - which leads to the specified year
  7. Month Page:
This page offers a list of all posts made in the specified month, but only shows date, subject, security and number of comments.
    URL: your.livejournal.com/YYYY/MM
  8. Day Page:
All posts made on the specified day are shown, like they would look like on the Recent Page.
    URL: your.livejournal.com/YYYY/MM/DD
  9. Message Page:
Last but not least, the page which shows up in case errors occurred. It is currently not used, though. Errors are still displayed in the site scheme of LJ (which is Horizon by default).
