Chapter 11 “Come on!” Kibum dragged a very unwilling Kevin behind him, smiling when the nerd gave him a really adorable pout. “It’ll be quite an experience!”
Kevin frowned. “I don’t want to-”
“You sure do!” Kibum stuck out his tongue.
“I have yet to scream at you for changing plans. Don’t make me regret that decision.” Kevin groaned as the older and stronger man continued pulling his arm.
“Oh, you won’t. Trust me. I’ll get you fixed up.” Kibum grinned happily, before realising what he said. “No, I don’t mean you look bad, but you need some image control.”
“And why would I need image control?” Kevin mumbled under his breath, giving Kibum an angry face, only causing the latter to chuckle.
“We’re here!” Kibum announced, pushing Kevin into a spectacles shop. “He needs contact lenses, I need a pair of spectacles without degrees.”
The shop assistants quickly got into their position, one taking Kevin with her, the other getting Kibum to choose the type of frame he would want.
Kibum suddenly forgot how to speak.
-
Kevin played with his fingers and worried his lips. He just felt weird around girls, even shop assistants.
“Look straight ahead and tell me the what you see, okay?” The gentle voice of the shop assistant caused Kevin to blush even more.
“Y-yes.” Kevin nodded a bit too forcefully.
“Don’t be nervous. This wouldn’t hurt at all.”
“I-I know. I did this before...” Kevin sighed internally. He was probably looking like an idiot. “A...T...C...G.”
“Next line.”
“Erm..It’s blur.” Kevin almost squeaked, quickly clearing his throat to hide the fact.
“Already?” The shop assistant sounded a little shocked. “Oh, right, your degree is pretty high.”
“Erm...yes...” Kevin blushed, not understanding himself. What’s there to be embarrassed about? He just has a very long eyeball with uneven cornea protecting his eyes, it’s not even his fault. He was born this way!
-
“Do you like this pair?” Kibum found himself staring blankly at a friendly smile. He turned to look in the mirror, analysing his looks. “You look good in every pair of spectacles, so I guess it’s really personal preference.”
Kibum nodded slightly to be polite, pointing at another pair on display that he would like to try.
“This one?” She asked sweetly. “It’s shipped over from Japan, a pretty reliable company. Their designs are quite popular too.”
“Oh.”
Kibum’s attention was stolen by the sound of footsteps. He quickly looked in the direction of the noise and saw Kevin. He suddenly felt himself being able to breathe properly, shoulders relaxed. Kevin took a seat beside Kibum, sighing in relief.
“How was it?” Kibum whispered as if they would be killed if he spoke a little too loud.
“Quite bad. I can’t talk to girls, you see.” Kevin frowned a little, trying to avoid the shop assistants’ looks while whispering back. “How about you?”
“Horribly bad. I can’t talk to humans, you see.” Kibum sighed heavily, gesturing at the many pairs of spectacles. “And I can’t pick a favourite from all these.”
“Oh yeah, I forgot. I’m an alien.” Kevin gritted his teeth. “Thanks for reminding.”
“No, no. Well, I talk to Soohyun too.” Kibum said as some sort of explanation. “Anyway, help me.”
“Talking about help, we were supposed to be studying.” Kevin stared at Kibum deadly.
“Spectacles would help, just like how they help you!” Kibum insisted.
“Gosh, you’re still on that idea.” Kevin shook his head. He looked at the many pairs of spectacles and randomly pointed at one. “Just take this.”
Kibum took it and put it on, looking into the mirror once again. “You think so? All right, we’ll take this.”
“Erm? It’s you, not us.” Kevin corrected in a hushed whisper.
“Sure, do you want to wear it right away? We’ll take out the lenses right now, and for your contact lenses, you’ll have to come back maybe some time next week to collect since it has to be custom made. Would that be all right?” The shop assistant asked with a smile.
Kevin and Kibum nodded stiffly.
“Please leave your contact number so that we can contact you as soon as it’s ready. How would you like to settle the bill?” She continued with a friendly smile, taking out paper and pen and placing it before the both of them so either could write their number.
“I’ll pay, here, my card.” Kibum said, and Kevin immediately frowned.
“I do have my savings...”
“I forced this upon you. Besides, I’m deducting this out of your pay.” Kibum stuck out a tongue childishly, tentatively forgetting about the shop assistant and chuckling when he got an unamused face from Kevin. “Kidding, but let me pay.”
-
“Oh, no, you wouldn’t!” Kevin shrieked. The crowd instantly turned to him and gave him dirty looks. “Sorry...sorry...”
“Heh.” Kibum cackled evilly. “Yes, I would.”
“You can’t!”
“I can.”
“You! Argh!”
“I- Huh?” Kibum blinked. “What’s that? New word?”
Kevin facepalmed. “I’m going home. Apparently, you aren’t concerned about your quiz at all.”
“After this! Really!” Kibum tugged. “You bring me to buy nerdish clothes, I’ll introduce you to my kind of fashion. I really want to be a nerd! I’m so jealous of your grades, you know?”
“Then why do I have to act like you?” Kevin raised an eyebrow.
“I don’t know. Something like exchanging lifestyle?”
“Then why don’t we just exchange clothes?!” Kevin groaned. “I hate shopping.”
Kibum stopped in his tracks and cocked his head to the side. “Oh yeah, why don’t we?”
“Arghh.”
