Indian "Fusion"

"Fusion" being fancy lingo for "I just made some shit up."  ;D

This week I tried a new Indian dish: Rajma-Chawal, the Indian version of Red Beans and Rice, essentially.  I got the recipe from Saffron and Silk, one of the blogs I read (one of my favorites, actually.  Really well done, lovely photos, and the woman who writes it is really nice, and I'm getting to know her a very little bit).

I altered the recipe a bit - I didn't have any Indian red beans (whatever they're called, I forget) or even Kidneys, so I used Pinto.  And because I've been craving Vindaloo recently but not up to the task of trying again when the recipe I've been working on isn't perfect yet, I just added some potatoes to the Rajma, and doubled the spices since the potatoes would soak up so much of the flavor.

The result was pretty damned wonderful.  And I have dubbed my version "Beandaloo."  LOL.

Yay, new food!   I have the last of it for lunch today.  Mmm.  :)

ETA:  The only thing that detracted from it was the fact that I was out of white rice, and made brown to go with.  They may take away my Austin Hippie Card for this (if I ever had one, which is doubtful), but I *detest* brown rice - it's like eating little nubs of soggy cardboard, AFAIC.   And after heating up my leftovers, I've found that the rice, on the reheat, has completely ruined the entire dish. Pop tart for lunch, then.  xP
